Jason Crandell, Zobha Circle of Grace member, is a world renowned yogi, husband and new father; with Father’s Day just around the corner we were curious to know how becoming a dad has changed his practice.

Jason is known for his unique approach to yoga and was recently named  “one of the next generation of teachers shaping yoga’s future” by Yoga Journal. Jason has spent the last several years of his practice traveling the world, sharing his experiences as he goes, and pushing his practice further everyday. In a recent interview with Teachasana he articulates how fatherhood has impacted his practice: ”My orientation has shifted from using my body to do asanas to using asanas to understand my body—and, by corollary, using my body to understand my mind, my moods, my conditioning, my—well—everything.

When my daughter was born 9 months ago, my asana practice got even slower and quieter. It also got much, much shorter and less frequent. Since I’m very pragmatic—and, I encourage my students to be reasonable with themselves at all times—I never fought against this trend…”

So if you are a new parent, and are noticing you’ve had to scale your personal fitness regiments back to the basics, take it from Jason, there is a lot that can be accomplished in making this shift. Listen to your body, you’ve been working for years to teach it new tricks, now it’s time for your body to teach you a thing or two.
